A Norfolk hospital that was struck by lightning says it has kept cancelled appointments to a minimum.

Phone lines at James Paget Hospital in Gorleston were affected by the strike and will not be fixed until Thursday.

But Christine Allen, chief executive, said operational services were running "near normally".

"There have only been minimal cancellations," she said, adding that patients should attend their planned appointments unless they are contacted.

The hospital said it still had some phone lines available, but asked for people only to get in contact in "urgent" situations.

Ms Allen said: "We understand how difficult it is for relatives and carers if you can't call the hospital to check on your loved one, and apologise for any difficulties experienced."
