An elderly woman found dead at a house in Norwich had been sexually assaulted and subjected to a sustained attack, a post-mortem examination has found.

A man in his 20s, arrested earlier, is now being questioned on suspicion of murder.

The woman's body was found at a house in The Avenues at about 17:30 GMT on Sunday, Norfolk Police said.

Police have obtained a warrant from magistrates giving them extra time to question the arrested man.

Earlier on Sunday morning police had been called to an address in nearby Christchurch Road over concerns for the safety of a man.

He was detained and taken to hospital for treatment.

Further investigation then led them to The Avenues where they found the woman's body.
