A bomb scare at a Tesco store in Great Yarmouth has been confirmed as a hoax by police.

Tesco said a "telephone threat" was received at the Pasteur Road site at about 16:00 GMT. The supermarket was subsequently evacuated.

After a "suspicious package" was found, an army bomb disposal team from Colchester safely disposed of the item, police said.

A cordon around the area is to be lifted.

Ch Supt Bob Scully, of Norfolk Police, said: "Steps were taken in the interests of public safety and we thank local residents for their patience and understanding during the course of the evening.

"Police inquiries into this matter continue."
