A man who robbed a convenience store brandishing a toy hand gun has been jailed.

Samuel Muroni, 31, of Beeching Road, Norwich, threatened staff at the One Stop in Quebec Road in the city before demanding cash and fled with £150 on 1 February.

He was arrested at a house streets away later in the day after an armed police unit was called.

Muroni was sentenced to 40 months in jail at Norwich Crown Court.

The court heard he went into the store and bought a packet of cigarette papers before pulling out the imitation gun and threatening the cashier.

A plastic silver and black handgun was discovered in the back garden by police when he was arrested.

Det Con Andy Tomlinson said: "Fortunately no-one was hurt during the incident however it was an extremely distressing for the staff member involved.

"The gun used in this offence was a toy, however it was silver and black in colour and would have seemed very real to the victim."
