A man who burned a woman and two children with cigarettes in a campaign of "terrible" abuse has been jailed.

Daniel Barber, 29, also tied his female victim to a kitchen cupboard, held her in a shower, cut her with glass and punched and kicked her.

He admitted falsely imprisoning the woman, actual bodily harm involving two boys and child abduction.

Barber, of School Road, Great Yarmouth, Norfolk, was jailed for six years at Norwich Crown Court.

Following the sentencing, Det Con Tristan Coull, of Norfolk Police, said it was "one of the most horrendous cases" he had worked on.

'Emotionally scarred'

The court heard how Barber held his victim against her will for long periods between May and June 2014.

In addition to the six years, Barber was told he will serve four years on licence.

Laura Matthews, 27, of the same address, was also found guilty of assaulting the two boys earlier this year and is due to be sentenced in June.

Det Con Coull said: "The children suffered terrible physical and mental abuse at the hands of Barber and although they have recovered well from their ordeal it has undoubtedly left them emotionally scarred.

"All victims have been incredibly brave in speaking to the police and I hope such a sentence will help each of them in their road to recovery."
