Northamptonshire firefighters to get two rescue boats

Emergency services in Northamptonshire are to get two powered boats for use in floods and river rescue operations.

Government department Defra has made £100,000 available for two new rescue craft operated by the fire service.

The grant money comes from funds set aside for flood barriers and training sessions for rescue volunteers.

A Defra spokesman said emergency response is most effective when public, private and voluntary groups all work together, as recently in Cornwall.
