South Northamptonshire Council puts homes plan on hold

Plans for 49 homes in a village near Towcester have been deferred after concerns about road safety issues.

The scheme at Mill Lane, Greens Norton, went before South Northamptonshire Council planners on Thursday night.

The council wants 35m (115ft) of double yellow lines on the access road to the new development.

But the local highways authority says 15m is acceptable. Further discussions will now take place.

A council spokeswoman said officers would be talking again to highways experts before the matter goes before the council's development control committee next month.

The parish council, in a report to the committee, had warned that Mill Lane already had traffic problems, with drivers using it to avoid queuing between the A43/A5 roundabouts.

The plan for the homes, in a field at the back of Calvert Close with access via a track off Mill Lane, has been put forward by a Mr and Mrs R Hunt.
