Views sought on schools' merger

Local residents are being asked for their views on plans to merge two secondary schools in Northamptonshire.

Consultation has started on a scheme to amalgamate Roade School, near Northampton, with Kingsbrook School, Deanshanger, near Milton Keynes.

Both schools are backing the plan, which if backed by Northamptonshire County Council, could see the new merged school open in September 2011.

The proposals would see educational provision continue on both sites.

The schools believe the merger would provide a greater choice of subjects for pupils and improved recruitment and retention of staff.

The schools say another reason for the merger is that both schools have over recent years seen a falling number of pupils.

More information is available on the council website.
