Job loss fear at DHL logistics firm in Corby

More than 100 jobs at a distribution centre in Corby are under threat following a proposal by electrical retailer Comet to pull out of the town.

The logistics company DHL, which operates out of Eurohub, has lost its contract with the company.

Three warehouses in Corby, Harlow and Skelmersdale could be reduced to two, with Corby being chosen to close.

A spokesperson from DHL said: "We will work with those affected to identify opportunities elsewhere within DHL."

The proposed closures are following a competitive tender process where Comet awarded its distribution contract to Wincanton Plc.

In total 130 jobs could be affected if Comet moves its distribution centre.

A spokesperson for Comet said: "We have begun the consultation period with those affected, which we expect to last 90 days."
