Work on £2.2m road scheme for Northampton under way

Work on a £2.2m road scheme to improve a busy Northamptonshire road junction has started after a delay of a year.

The work will improve Harborough Road in Kingsthorpe between Welford Road and the Cock Hotel junction in Northampton.

The project was shelved last year because of government spending cuts, but has now been made possible by spreading the funding over two years.

Planners hope to reduce congestion and improve safety. The work should be finished by December.

Andre Gonzalez De Savage, cabinet member for infrastructure on Conservative-controlled Northampton County Council, said: "I'm delighted that we've found a way to start work on the project now and construction can take advantage of the summer holiday period when the roads are relatively quiet and work conditions are more favourable, as well as utilising longer daylight hours."
