Corby nightclub Madisons loses licence

A nightclub in Corby has had its licence revoked for selling alcohol to under-age drinkers.

The licensing panel on Corby Borough Council decided to take the action against Madisons on Rockingham Road.

A Northamptonshire Police spot check in March found 57 under 18s at the nightclub, 24 of whom were buying or consuming alcohol.

The club's owner has 21 days to appeal against the decision and during that time it will stay open.

The venue is split into three parts called Madisons, Morgans and Storm.

Councillor Ray Lilley from Corby Old Village said: "The club has been repeatedly questioned over under-age drinking for the last three years and it has done very little to correct it; I think there was no alternative."

Residents of Corby Old Village have reported incidents of antisocial behaviour around the nightclub to the police over a number of years.

"Corby has one of the worst problems for under age drinking in the Midlands and that cannot continue," said Mr Lilley.
