Northampton teenager accused of sending riot messages

A teenager from Northampton has been remanded in custody after appearing in court accused of inciting 147 people to riot by an instant messaging service.

Aidan Curwen, 18, of Thorplands, will appear again before Northampton Crown Court next week after bail was refused.

Northampton magistrates were told he used his Black Berry to tell people to meet in Abington Park.

The prosecution told the court he tried to incite trouble similar to the riots in London, Birmingham and Manchester.

Mr Curwen, a holiday insurance salesman, was arrested after the message was shown to a police officer, the court heard.
