Burton Latimer recycling plant fire 'may burn all week'

Firefighters have said a fire at a waste recycling plant could burn until the end of the week, nearly a fortnight after it started.

The fire at Blackbridge Farm in Burton Latimer started on 9 October, two weeks after another fire at the site which lasted for seven days.

Residents, schools and businesses in the area have been told to keep their doors and windows closed.

Plumes of smoke have been seen 25 miles away in the village of Weedon.

At its height more than 40 firefighters were at the scene and on Wednesday morning cars in Thrapston, more than 10 miles away, were covered in ash from the fire.

The Environment Agency is monitoring the effects of the fire.

Blackbridge Farm is an industrial site run by Think Environmental Ltd, which recycles waste to form bales that are then used to produce energy.

The firm has apologised for the inconvenience caused to people.
