Kings Cliffe radioactive site protesters at High Court

Campaigners against low-level radioactive waste disposal at a landfill site in Northamptonshire have started a High Court challenge.

In May, waste company Augean's plans for the plant at Kings Cliffe, near Peterborough, was given the go-ahead by the government.

Villagers raised the money to fund the legal action arguing the waste would pose a serious health risk.

Augean says the plant will pose no risk to human health.

A judgement in the case is expected on Thursday after a two-year battle between Augean and campaigners.

The company has said that if the court rules in its favour, the facility could be up and running within weeks.
