Wellingborough Karoly Varga murder inquiry: Man appears in court

A man has been remanded in custody charged with the murder of a 76-year-old in Northamptonshire.

Hungarian-born Karoly Varga, known locally as Charlie, was found at his home in Cannon Street, Wellingborough, on 30 July.

He had died from head injuries inflicted by a bladed weapon.

Elemer Patakfalvi, 47, of Fulmar Lane, Wellingborough, appeared before town magistrates earlier. He is due at Leicester Crown Court on Thursday.

He had white hair and a beard, appeared to be frail and spoke through a Hungarian translator to confirm his details.

He is charged with murdering Mr Varga on 27 July.
