Wellingborough basketball team's wheelchairs stolen

Wheelchairs belonging to a basketball team have been stolen from a Northamptonshire sports club.

Fifteen wheelchairs were taken from Wellingborough Phoenix Wheelchair Basketball Club at Weavers Leisure Centre in Wellingborough on Monday.

They had been stored on a trailer outside the club on Weavers Road.

District commander Ch Insp Vaughan Clarke said: "This is a despicable crime which will affect the lives of disabled people."

Mr Clarke added: "We are appealing to the conscience of those that are aware of what has happened to the trailer and wheelchairs to call either us or Crimestoppers so that we can return them to Wellingborough Phoenix Wheelchair Basketball Club."
