Millions of pounds are being invested in crematoriums in Northamptonshire to meet growing demand.

Work on part of a £2m improvement plan to Rothwell Road crematorium in Kettering started earlier this month while Wellingborough councillors have discussed funding a new £2m facility.

This week councillors agreed to search for a suitable site in the town.

It is hoped the investment will meet the growing demand for cremations.

Wellingborough Councillor Thomas Pursglove, said: "We're keen to provide a local service that people have told us they want.

"Figures from a couple of years ago show that 73% of deaths resulted in cremation in the UK.

"We're pleased we're moving forward with it."
