Police switchboard swamped by snow calls in Northamptonshire

Northamptonshire Police dealt with more than 1,000 snow-related calls from the public over the weekend but only 370 were real emergencies.

A number of calls were from people concerned about snow ball throwing.

A spokesman said police would be concerned only if it involved vulnerable people, a threat to traffic or serious anti-social behaviour.

Oundle C of E Primary has closed because of boiler problems but all other schools in the county are open.

Long delays are expected to continue on some of Northamptonshire's roads as a result of snowfall over the weekend.

Emergency services have been dealing with a high number of accidents, and volunteers with 4x4s have been called in to help.

Northamptonshire Police are asking the public not to travel unless it is necessary.
