Driver dies in four-car incident on Northamptonshire M1

A 54-year-old man from north London has died in a crash involving four cars on the M1 in Northamptonshire.

He was driving a Peugeot north-bound on Sunday when it left the carriageway and crashed into two stationary cars.

A Land Rover Defender had earlier left the carriageway between Newport Pagnell Services and J15 for Northampton and was on its roof on the verge.

Drivers of an Audi and a Toyota had stopped to help when the Peugeot hit their cars killing the man.

The overturned Land Rover was near the hard shoulder when the drivers of an Audi A3 and a Toyota Corrolla stopped to assist the occupants, police said.

The Peugeot then crashed into the stationary Audi and Toyota and its driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

There were no other serious injuries to the three occupants of the Land Rover, the two occupants of the Audi or the driver of the Toyota

Police have appealed for witnesses to contact them.
