Sickness cases at Northampton Virgin Active gym probed

Gym bosses are investigating what caused five children to become unwell at a Northampton pool.

The children were taken ill from the Virgin Active gym pool in Riverside Retail Park on Thursday.

The pool was closed as one of the children was taken to hospital after vomiting and others complained of feeling breathless.

A spokesperson for Virgin Active said staff were testing the water to find out what caused the problem.

"We are continuing to investigate and assess the circumstances of the incident, and have carried out tests on the pool," the spokesperson said.

"Virgin Active takes the wellbeing and safety of members extremely seriously and wishes the affected children a quick recovery.

"We have an investigation team at the club reviewing all of the information."

The pool has now reopened.
