Northamptonshire police station in grenade scare

A bomb disposal team has been called to a Northampton police station after two hand grenades were brought in by a member of the public.

Staff and members of the public were evacuated from Weston Favell police station at 11:20 GMT and prisoners taken to alternative custody suites.

The bomb disposal team took two hand grenades from the scene, one which they were treating as potentially live.

They said they were planning to dispose of them safely at a military unit.

Police said officers and staff were allowed back into the building shortly before 14:00 GMT.
