Arrest over attempt to murder PC in Corby

A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a car was driven at a police officer in Corby.

The incident happened after a man drove a red Peugeot 406 into a branch of KFC at the Texaco service station in Oakley Road at about 23:30 GMT on Thursday.

Off-duty police officer PC John Cummins witnessed the incident, followed the vehicle and later when it parked, stopped and walked to the car.

The Peugeot was then driven towards PC Cummins who narrowly avoided being hit.

Found on garage

A marked police car arrived at the scene and the offender also rammed into the marked car, causing minor shoulder injuries to PC Ruth Hay which required hospital treatment.

The driver of the Peugeot fled the scene.

Later, a 49-year-old man from Corby was found on a garage roof and arrested just after midnight.
