An RAF helicopter had to make a "precautionary" landing in a field in the east of Northamptonshire.

The Ministry of Defence said the Merlin helicopter from RAF Benson was on a routine flight when the crew realised they had mechanical problems.

It had to land at 18:30 BST on Wednesday and was grounded overnight in a field in Stanwick where engineers were called in to repair the fault.

The helicopter was fixed by 10:35 BST and it returned to base in Oxfordshire.
