Drivers in Northamptonshire warned of icy conditions

Drivers in Northamptonshire have been warned of icy roads, as rain is expected to follow some overnight snow.

Snow ploughs were out during the night as about four inches (10cm) of snow fell to the north and eastern parts of the county.

Rebecca Williams from Northamptonshire Highways said: "As much as it's starting to thaw, we're expecting quite a lot of rain.

"It is still going to be very cold, so there is a risk of ice."

Most of the county's major football teams will not be playing on Saturday because of the weather.

Brackley, Corby, Kettering, Daventry and Woodford have all seen their fixtures postponed.

Firefighters were called overnight to a house in Surrey Street in Corby, where a carport had collapsed under the weight of the snow.

No-one was hurt.
