A woman has been arrested on suspicion of manslaughter after a man died following a fight in Northampton.

The 53-year-old man collapsed in East Park Parade on Tuesday shortly before 18:00 GMT and died later that evening in Northampton General Hospital.

Police said officers were investigating the possibility that the man "was trying to prevent the woman from walking in the road".

The man collapsed as officers arrested the 47-year-old woman.

Det Ch Insp Steve Lingley said: "We were called to a report of a man and a woman fighting in the street.

"However, we are now investigating the possibility that the man was trying to prevent the woman from walking in the road.

"Officers arrived at the incident within five minutes of receiving the call and were in the process of arresting the woman when the man collapsed.

"After conducting first aid, he was taken to Northampton General Hospital for treatment but sadly died."

The woman was treated at the hospital before being taken into custody.
