PCSO powers set to be extended in Northamptonshire

The powers of Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs) in Northamptonshire are to be extended for a three month trial period.

From April, 23 Kettering PCSOs will be able to issue fixed penalty notices and remove vehicles causing obstruction.

At present PCSOs have powers to issue fixed penalty notices for littering and requiring people under 18 to surrender alcohol and powers to seize drugs.

Chief Constable Adrian Lee announced the plan this week.

Mr Lee said: "Having greater powers would enable the PCSO to deliver a more complete service.

"With parking obstructions regularly identified as a local priority, PCSOs themselves were keen to increase their powers in this area."
