Daventry swimming pool to get £200,000 refurbishment

An award of £200,000 of lottery cash has been made to revamp a Northamptonshire swimming pool.

The grant, from the Sport England New Improvement Fund, will be used to improve the changing rooms at Daventry Leisure Centre in Lodge Road.

The money is from a £10m funding pot for improving UK sports centres.

Sport England's Charles Johnston said: "Future talent starts with people going swimming for the first time. We need good facilities at grassroots level."

The grant is one of 38 across the UK, mainly awarded to organisations looking to improve artificial grass pitches and pool changing rooms.

"A lot of people say they are put off by the quality of facilities when they try to go swimming, and this is part of a plan to address that," Mr Johnston said.

"At places like Daventry, we find the pool's almost empty because people are finding it difficult to get through the changing rooms.

"If you can make them bigger and more modern, then the whole experience improves."

The pool is run by the Everyone Active on behalf of Daventry District Council.
