The much-delayed £20m Northampton railway station will open on Monday 12 January, the final day of a deadline set by Network Rail.

But passengers are advised to allow plenty of extra time because of the new layout and ticket gate operation.

The station was due to open last October but "snagging problems" caused delays, Network Rail said.

The current station will shut in the early hours of Monday after the last train arrives at about 02:43 GMT.

The new station building will open at 04:00 in time for the first service to depart for Euston station 15 minutes later.
