A 51-year-old man has pleaded guilty to murder after a body was found in a house fire.

Karl Pound was accused of killing Robert Chester in the victim's home in Northampton in October 2015.

He admitted the charge on the first day of his trial at Northampton Crown Court.

Mary Cash, aged 39, of no fixed abode, is also on trial for murder but denies the offence. The case against her continues.

Judge Rupert Mayo told the jury they were discharged from reaching a verdict in the case of Pound.

Mr Chester's body was found in his home on 8 October after emergency services were called out to a fire at the property in Rothersthorpe Road.

A post-mortem examination concluded he died before it started.
