A cash machine has been stolen in a ram-raid at a shop in Northamptonshire.

A telehandler machine was used to smash the shutters and wall of the Co-operative Food store in Wollaston, at about 03:20 BST on Saturday.

The cash machine was then lifted on to a stolen Mitsubishi L200 pick-up truck and driven away.

Sgt Darron Bishop of Northamptonshire Police posted photos of the scene on Twitter, describing the aftermath as "carnage".

He said residents had reported the incident after hearing "loud crashing noises".

The cash machine and pick-up truck have since been recovered.

It is thought the offenders fled in a "high performance vehicle", the force said.
