Three arrested over man's assault in Worksop

Two women and one man have been arrested in connection with an assault in Nottinghamshire which left a man with serious injuries.

The 25-year-old man was attacked at the side of the canal behind the Litten Tree pub in Dock Road, Worksop, at about 1730 BST on Saturday.

He was taken to hospital in Sheffield where he underwent surgery.

The three were arrested on suspicion of conspiring to commit grievous bodily harm.

Both women, aged 20 and 40, and a 30-year-old man have been released on police bail pending further inquiries.

Detectives are trying to trace two men in connection with the attack.

Det Con Michael Booth said: "This was a very serious assault carried out in the heart of the town centre and someone must have seen something.

"We have reason to believe that two men carried out the assault and I ask witnesses or anyone with information to please come forward and tell us what they know."
