A security guard has been injured during an attempted armed robbery in Nottingham.

Two offenders, believed to have firearms, approached a Post Office van near the Londis store in Beech Avenue, Sherwood Rise, just before midday.

The female security guard sustained leg injuries when one of the weapons was fired but these were not serious.

The offenders did not steal any money and made off in a car. A vehicle was found nearby and is being examined.

Police have appealed for any witnesses to come forward.
