Nottingham's city centre tram service is running normally after disruption following a fire which destroyed a disused building.

About 1,400 people at a nearby nightclub were led to safety in the early hours of Thursday while crews tackled the blaze in Goldsmith Street.

A large section of road was closed all day and trams terminated at Forest Park and Ride.

The tram service resumed at the start of service on Friday morning.

No-one was hurt in the fire, the cause of which will be investigated once the area is made safe.

It broke out at about 0100 GMT, prompting the evacuation of the nearby Rescue Rooms nightclub as well as student accommodation.

A front section of the former Posh Spice restaurant was expected to be demolished.
