Rising fuel prices 'force' bus fare hike in Nottingham

Nottingham City Transport has increased some bus fares because of rising fuel costs, a spokesman said.

A day ticket will rise by 20p to £3.40 whilst an adult single will cost £1.70 starting on Sunday.

Child, student, weekend family and monthly ticket prices will remain unchanged.

Nottingham City Transport said it used 9 million litres of fuel a year and was paying up to 15p more a litre for fuel than a year ago.

Fuel costs have added £1m to its costs in the past year, the spokesman said.

Fares also increased in April 2010 following a two-year price freeze on the city's bus network.

Fuel prices are averaging about £1.35 per litre, up 15p a litre over the past year.
