Chemical spill closes part of A1 in Nottinghamshire

Part of the southbound carriageway of the A1 in Nottinghamshire has been closed due to a lorry fire and chemical spillage.

Fire crews were called to the A1 at North Muskham at about 0100 BST to tackle a lorry on fire and a spillage of irritant chemicals on the road.

A Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue spokeswoman said 4,500 litres of water were used at the scene.

The carriageway is expected to remain closed for several hours.

Diversions are in place and traffic is slow from the B6325 junction to the Winthorpe Island.
