Lincoln-to-Newark delays after man hit by train

Part of an East Midlands Trains' route has been closed after a man was hit by a train, British Transport Police have confirmed.

Officers say the man was hit by a freight train near Boultham level crossing in Lincoln at about 04:50 BST.

There are currently no trains running between Lincoln Central and Newark and a replacement bus service is operating for passengers.

Police said the man's death was being treated as unexplained.

A spokeswoman from British Transport Police said the freight train was travelling from Peterborough to Doncaster at the time of the incident.

She added: "Local police, the fire and ambulance services attended the scene and the body of a man was found under the train. He was declared dead at the scene."

Cleethorpes and Grimsby Town to Newark North Gate services will begin and end from Lincoln Central and a special train service is running between Nottingham and Newark Castle.

An investigation into the man's death is under way.
