Nottingham city drinking ban to be extended

A ban on drinking in Nottingham is to be extended, the city council has confirmed.

Council workers have the power to confiscate alcohol from people drinking in the city centre and Hyson Green.

A designated public place order has now been set up in Basford and restrictions already in place in Sneinton have been extended.

The new measures have been brought in after residents complained about anti-social behaviour in the areas.

Richard Antcliff, who deals with anti-social behaviour for the council, said: "These new zones are as a result of alcohol-related incidents and local people expressing concerns.

"They are very much a preventative measure so behaviour does not escalate."

Drinkers face fines of up to £500 if they refuse to stop when asked to do so.
