Nottingham Caribbean carnival goes ahead despite riots

Nottingham's Caribbean carnival has gone ahead despite recent disorder in the city.

Thousands of people were expected at the event, which included a parade from the castle at 14:00 BST.

Food stalls, a fun fair and live music were on offer at the Forest Recreation Ground from 12:00 until 21:30 BST.

Assistant Chief Constable Ian Ackerley said there would be no more officers deployed at the event than usual.

Mr Ackerley said: "It is a spectacular cultural festival and we intend that everyone attending it has a thoroughly good time.

"But because of our determination to prevent any outbreaks of lawlessness that tarnished the city last Tuesday night, some of the officers attending the carnival may be dressed slightly different to usual.

"That is simply because they may need to be deployed elsewhere in the city to respond to any public order problems."
