BBC Radio Nottingham is hosting a "Big Weekend Out" to encourage people to celebrate the city's culture.

The event, over the August bank holiday weekend, follows the success of the Big Night Out, a BBC initiative to improve Nottingham's night-time image.

Discounted offers for attractions, bars and restaurants are available on the city council website from Friday.

It comes after two nights of disorder in Nottingham, which saw shops damaged and scores of people arrested.

The Big Weekend Out has the aim of encouraging people to get out in the city and make the most of what it has to offer.

BBC Radio Nottingham's Andy Whittaker said: "It is time for the majority to stand together and celebrate what's great about Nottingham."
