Nottingham soldier attack: Two men jailed

Two men have been jailed after a soldier was punched to the ground and kicked in the head in Nottingham.

The 19-year-old was walking on Clumber Street when he was attacked in June.

Aaron Winfield, 18, of Broxtowe Lane, Broxtowe, and Luke Stone, 21, of Cheviot Drive, Bulwell, admitted causing grievous bodily harm.

At Nottingham Crown Court Stone was jailed for four-and-a-half years and Winfield was given four years in a young offenders' institute.

'Unprovoked attack'

Det Con Ian Holmes said after the hearing that it was originally thought the soldier would lose his sight ending his army career but he has now made a full recovery.

"It was a completely unprovoked attack.

"He was initially pushed by Stone and didn't react much to that at all other than question why.

"Then without any notice Winfield punched him in the face and that caused him to stumble backwards and they kicked him in the head," said Det Con Holmes.
