Man arrested 'minutes after buglary' in Nottingham

Police giving advice to University of Nottingham students have arrested a man minutes after a burglary was reported.

The burglary took place at a house in Derby Road, Lenton, at about 15:15 BST on Sunday.

A workman took a photograph of the suspect on his phone, which was circulated to officers in the area.

Nottinghamshire Police said minutes later a man matching the description was arrested and a laptop and other electrical items were recovered.

A 18-year-old Nottinghamshire man has been charged with three counts of burglary and was due to appear in court on Tuesday.

Insp Anwaar Ahmed from Canning Police Station said: "Swift actions of officers in the area at the time meant that a suspect was arrested within minutes of the burglary."

The purpose of the meet and greet was for officers to introduce themselves to new students, offer crime prevention advice and make them feel welcome.
