Murder inquiry after man dies in Nottinghamshire

A 70-year-old man has died after an incident on a housing estate in Nottinghamshire, police have confirmed.

Officers were called to Pearl Close in Rainworth, near Mansfield, at about 12:00 GMT after receiving reports that a man had been injured. Paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene.

A man and a woman have been arrested in connection with his death.

Nottinghamshire Police have cordoned off the scene to carry out a murder investigation.

A post-mortem examination will take place to establish out how the man died. He has not yet been named.

Det Ch Insp Simon Firth said: "It would appear that the male had been subjected to some type of violent assault.

"As a result of that two people have been arrested... and are helping us with our enquiries."

He added that a number of forces from the East Midlands special operations and homicide units were assisting Nottinghamshire Police with their investigation.
