Engineers in Nottinghamshire have been working to restore power to homes after severe winds caused widespread damage.

Western Power said engineers had been "out in force" throughout the day to resolve the problems caused by winds.

The company said power was restored to all but 500 properties in the East Midlands by 17:30 GMT on Thursday.

At its height, the storm left more than 900 homes without power, with Woodborough, Epperstone, Calverton and Lowdham particularly affected.

Earlier, flooding caused traffic delays on the A52 and a car came off the road on the A6097 Epperstone bypass.

Toton Lane in Stapleford was closed between the Blake Road and Nottingham Road junctions, because of a fallen tree.
