Crackdown on Ilkeston school road drivers

Drivers using roads past three Derbyshire schools have been warned to take extra care after two were fined.

Concerns were raised about speeding and bad driving near Cotmanhay Junior School, Charlotte Infant School and Granby Junior School in Ilkeston.

Police said they spoke to a number of motorists last year but the problems have continued.

Now two drivers have been issued with fixed penalty notices and officers have warned they will monitor the area.

PC Andrew Kendall-Edwards said: "I have issued fixed penalty notices for parking and one for a driver using a mobile phone. The drivers will now have to pay a fine and will receive points on their licence".

"Just before Christmas there was a collision outside one of the schools which involved a student. Luckily there were no injuries, but if speeding continues there may be further collisions with more unfortunate outcomes."
