A Nottingham burglar who was freed from prison for the sake of his children has been convicted of assault.

In May 2011, Wayne Bishop, 34, won an appeal against an eight-month sentence by arguing the needs of his five children had not been considered.

At Nottingham Magistrates Court on Thursday, Bishop, of Failsworth Close, was found guilty of punching a man in Broxtowe on 19 June.

Sentencing was adjourned to the crown court and Bishop was granted bail.

The court was shown CCTV footage of Bishop and another man attacking the victim in a Spar store.

Bishop did not give evidence and did not comment outside court.

A date for the sentencing is yet to be set.
