Women tied up and assaulted in Lady Bay Poundworld robbery

Two female shop assistants were tied up and assaulted by masked robbers who stole cash from a Nottingham store.

The women were closing up at Poundworld at Lady Bay Retail Park on Tuesday night when two men went into the shop and demanded the safe key.

Nottinghamshire Police said they believed the robbers fled on foot with a "substantial amount of cash".

The women were left shocked and bruised by the assault but did not require hospital treatment, police said.

Det Sgt Kaz Smithson, from Nottinghamshire Police, said: "The robbery took place just before the Notts County football game so there were lots of people in the area.

"While the crowds may have aided their escape at the time, we are hoping someone may have seen something or bumped into these men as they fled."

The men were described as being in their early 20s and were both wearing masks, gloves and dark blue jackets.

They spoke with local accents and one was about 6ft tall and the other 5ft 8in tall.
