Sheffield man Jonathan White jailed for child sex offences

A man has been jailed for a series of sex offences against a girl aged under 10, in Nottinghamshire.

Jonathan White, 41, from Brunswick Gardens, Sheffield, had denied six offences, including rape, against a child under 13.

At Nottingham Crown Court, White was sentenced to a total of 12 years in prison.

Police said the victim had showed "incredible strength and bravery" to report the crimes.

'Admirable courage'

White was placed on the sex offenders' register indefinitely and banned from working with children.

He had denied two counts of sexual assault on a child under the age of 13, two counts of inciting sexual activity with a child under the age of 13 and two counts of rape on a child under the age of 13.

The court heard the offences happened when White's victim, who is now 16, was aged between 8 and 10.

Speaking after the sentencing, Det Con Lisa Saporita, of Nottinghamshire Police's Child Abuse Investigation Unit, said: "White's victim has gone through a tremendous ordeal - not only has she had to endure the assaults but then has also faced questioning in court.

"Despite this she has shown incredible strength and bravery in speaking out about the abuse and because of her admirable courage, White will spend a significant time in prison."
