Cold weather forces Nottinghamshire football cancellations

Two football matches in Nottinghamshire have been cancelled because of frozen pitches.

Both Mansfield Town's Football Conference match against Darlington and Notts County's League One fixture against Stevenage were called off as temperatures dipped to -9C.

The Met Office said as much as 4ins (9.6cm) of snow was possible in parts of Nottinghamshire on Saturday.

An amber weather warning is in place for the county.

A rugby match at Meadow Lane planned for Sunday between Nottingham and Leeds has also been cancelled because of a frozen pitch.

Nottinghamshire County Council said it has oil-filled radiators on standby to deliver to the elderly and vulnerable if heating fails.
