Nottinghamshire police increase patrols after bricks thrown at lorries

Police are increasing patrols after bricks were thrown at three articulated lorries in north Nottinghamshire.

The bricks were thrown by youths from steps leading to a bridge over the A57 in Worksop on Monday, a police spokesman said.

All three lorries were damaged and a large brick narrowly missed a windscreen in one incident.

Inspector Steve Cartwright said the bricks could have "blinded a driver" and caused "a massive collision".

"Whoever did this must have been aware of the damage and destruction they could have caused and it is only through sheer luck that we are not investigating a death today," he said.

"This senseless behaviour is completely unacceptable and simply will not be tolerated."

He said police patrols of bridges in the area would be increased.
