Council plans West Bridgford school expansion

Plans to create more than 300 primary school places in the West Bridgford area of Nottingham have been unveiled by the county council.

The authority wants to spend £7m expanding Heymann Primary School for a further 210 pupils, by September 2013.

There are also plans to increase capacity at Edwalton Primary School and Pierrepont Gamston VA Primary School.

Council bosses said expansion is necessary to cope with a growing population.

Philip Owen, from Nottinghamshire County Council, said: "We have been speaking to local schools and listening to parents and this is a plan to put school places where people want them - in the centre of West Bridgford."

A decision on whether to proceed with the plan will be made at a cabinet meeting on 14 March.
